She says it better than I could.

When I wrote about our Christmas tree, I mentioned that Treasuring God in Our Traditions by Noel Piper partly influenced our decision about our tree decorations. In fact, that book influenced the way we celebrate a variety of traditions as a family because she took a lot of what we had been thinking and summed it up very nicely. This is especially true when it comes to many facets of celebrating Christmas.

It's no secret since we have small children that we do not "do Santa" as a part of our Christmas celebration. I know we've discussed our reasoning some with various family members and here and there with friends, but I don't think I've ever addressed it publicly.

Noel Piper has been posting thoughts about advent at the Desiring God blog of late, and I thought I'd pass along her latest post since it explains some of the reasons we have chosen not to include Santa in our celebration. If you are familiar with her book, then you'll recognize these thoughts from the chapter on Christmas. Basically, I could type out a list of our reasons, but she says it better than I could.
