Garden Fail

This is proof that you never know what to expect when it comes to gardening. I left my squash plants big, green, and with a couple of yellow squash getting big enough to pick. This is what I found when I returned home yesterday. I don't know enough to really speculate about what did them in, but it did look like the squash borers had attacked the vegetables that were on the plant.

Does anyone else have a gardening triumph or failure to share?

  1. Could have been one of two culprits - nematodes or squash bugs. No fault of the grower - just nature. There are organic means to control them but I honestly think the best is to burn your leaves and the garden area and add that to the soil. Squash bugs are my biggest nemesis.

  2. Don't worry! Mine didn't do too good this year because I started mine so late. This is the first time for being late. I had good garden before and many time before. I do hope to start it early next spring to avoid this same kind of mistake.

I love the new looks of your wonderful blog!

  3. Thanks Guerite! I'm realizing that most everyone is losing squash by now. My goal is definitely to plan better for next year and get most things started much earlier. I'm excited to start planning for fall planting now, though!
